Author Interview with Callie Hutton

POSTED ON October 6, 2016 BY Austine IN Interview

Today I have Callie Hutton on the blog to talk a bit about herself and her book Seducing the Marquess!

You wrote a book! That’s pretty awesome. Why don’t you tell us a bit about what inspired Seducing the Marquess?

I just liked the idea of a woman in the regency period who wanted more from her marriage than she was led to believe was her due. I had her find a very naughty book that she beings to use to seduce (and confuse) her poor husband.

Introduce us to your main character!

Richard, Marquess of Devon is a straight-laced, always does things the proper way gentleman. He believes marriage is for connections and producing heirs. Never for love or lust. Lady Eugenia Devon, his wife, was raised to believe the same thing. But she’s not happy with the arrangement   . . . .

Walk us through a day in the life of Callie Hutton.

I write full time, so I’m in my office at my computer between 7:30 and 8 in the morning. I spend most of my day there, with a couple of breaks. I oftentimes work a bit in the evening, since I’m not a TV fan.

I take a couple of classes when I have time. Right now I’m taking the Citizen’s Police Academy that runs for 3 months. Very, very interesting and enlightening. I also just started a class at a local university where we’re studying a book written by a man born during the regency period.

I try not to work on the weekend, as that’s when I see my two year old twin grandsons. I call them the twinadoes.

Lots of aspiring authors out there. Any advice for them?

Yes. Exactly what I told my kids when they were growing up. You can never win the race if you’re not in it. In other words, don’t give up. Rejections are part of the game, and helps you to learn to be a better writer. Write every day, and read all the time you can. Not just craft books, which are important, but also books by excellent authors who write in your genre. You can see what good writing looks like, how great authors put a story together.

I know asking someone’s all-time favorite book is a loaded question so what’s your current favorite read?

I also have several ‘favorite’ recent reads, too. Stacy Reid’s Accidentally Compromising the Duke; Katherine LeVeque’s Lords of Thunder 3 book series; Madeline Hunter’s Secrets of Surrender; Tamara Gill’s Only an Earl Will Do; Ella Quinn’s Three Weeks to Wed.  You get the idea.

Alright, the ultimate question: why should we read your book?

Because it’s fun. Devon and Eugenia get into so much trouble. I already have several four and five star reviews for it up on Goodreads. Everyone seems to be enjoying Devon and Eugenia’s interactions with each other.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Optimistic; energetic; fun

What is your Hogwarts house(s)?

Gryffindor, of course.

Your characters are sent into the Hunger Games. Who wins?

Eugenia. She has a lot of spunk

A famous movie producer wants to make your books into movies and they want you to cast your characters. Which actors/actresses make the cut?

Eugenia: A young Angelia Jolie.  Devon: A young Sean Connery

You just won America’s Got Talent. What’s your talent?

This morning you woke up with the ability to time travel to only one time period. Where (or more accurately “when”) would you go?

I would travel to 1880’s either London or New York City.

Coffee or tea?

Both, depending on the time of day.

Best ice cream flavor ever?

Vanilla (you can do so much with it)

Your theme song/personal anthem?

It’s Raining Men (watch the period video to this song on you tube)

Favorite quote?

“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

What is one piece of advice you would tell everyone?

Forget about it. Don’t dwell on what you can’t change. Always move forward.

London, 1819. Richard, Marquess of Devon is satisfied with his ton marriage. His wife of five months, Lady Eugenia Devon, thought she was, too, until she found the book. Their marriage is one of respect and affection, with no messy entanglements such as love. Devon’s upbringing impressed upon him that gentlemen slake their baser needs on a mistress, not their gently bred wives. However, once married, he was no longer comfortable bedding a woman other Eugenia. When she stumbles onto a naughty book, she begins a campaign to change the rules.

Lady Eugenia wants her very proper husband to fall in love with her. But her much changed and undeniably wicked behavior might inadvertently drive her confused husband to ponder the unthinkable—his perfect Lady has taken a lover. But the only man Eugenia only wants is her husband. The book can bring sizzling desire to the marriage or it might cause an explosion.
