Author Interview with Emma Douglas

POSTED ON December 5, 2017 BY Austine IN Interview

I am SO so excited to have Emma Douglas on the blog today! She’s the author of the new Cloud Bay series, contemporary romances with plenty of sizzle! You can read my reviews of the first two books, Need You Now and A Season of You, then check out more about the author below!

About Emma Douglas

Emma Douglas has read like a wild thing since she was small. She discovered romance novels at an age that way probably way too young but she survived unscathed. When she realized you could make up stories as well as read them, she started taking notes about what the characters wandering through her head were telling her and then, eventually, books happened.

Before the books happened she did the usual things (was a band geek (and a geek generally), had crushes on rock stars and fictional characters, spent chunks of her summers on an island beach, got a degree in something sensible that doesn’t involve writing about kissing, became a black belt in internet procrastination, fell down the rabbit-hole of craft, traveled a bit, indulged her love of baked goods, got bossed around by cats, began a quest for the perfect margarita, and napped to recover from all of the above.

She still does most of that plus the writing thing from a tiny house which her feline overlords have kindly agreed to share with her.

All About Emma

You wrote a book! That’s pretty awesome. Why don’t you tell us a bit about what inspired No Place Like You?

The Cloud Bay series was inspired by my love of music and influenced by summers spent on a small island as a kid. I’ve always been a sucker for a reunion romance so I knew I wanted to do one set in Cloud Bay. And as soon as Zach Harper walked into my head, I knew that he was just the kind of guy who’d left someone behind to chase his dream. And that I wanted to torture him into realizing that had been a pretty dumb thing to do!

Introduce us to your main character!

Leah Santelli is a sound engineer and producer who works at the Harper family’s recording studio, following in her dad’s footsteps. She basically runs the studio since he retired. She loves music, doughnuts, surfing, her family, her friends and her home town, Cloud Bay. A long time ago she had a secret crush on her best friend’s brother…a crush she thought died when he left town. But now he’s back and she’s about to find out she might just be wrong about that.

Walk us through a day in the life of Emma Douglas.

Alarm goes off. Groan resentfully (night owl). Get up and feed the kitties, shower, dress, kick start the brain with caffeine.  Then either writing work or the day job, a bit of exercise hopefully, reading, house stuff, wondering why dinner won’t magically appear, entertaining the kitties, too much time on the internet, Netflix, maybe something arty and then bed!

Lots of aspiring authors out there. Any advice for them?

Finish the books you start. Start another one while you polish old ones. Don’t give up.

I know asking someone’s all-time favorite book is a loaded question so what’s your current favorite read?

I’ve been having a lot of fun reading the Chronicles of St Mary’s series by Jodi Taylor (time traveling historians have adventures!).

Alright, the ultimate question: why should we read your book?

Hmmm, hot rock star, reunion romance, many doughnuts, best friends and lurve.

Now for the Fun…

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Bookworm, creative, practical.

What is your most embarrassing memory?

Hmmm, realizing I’d worn two completely different shoes to work one day early in my day job career was a good one. Had to wait until the stores opened and sneak off and buy a new pair as I had meetings that day.

What is your Hogwarts/Ilvermorny house?

Hufflepuff/Horned Serpent

Your characters are sent into the Hunger Games. Who wins?

Leah because she’s smart, fast and doesn’t give up

A famous movie producer wants to make your books into movies and they want you to cast your characters. Which actors/actresses make the cut?

My inspiration for Leah was Mila Kunis..she’s doesn’t exactly look like that but that’s the right vibe. And for Zach, Jared Padalecki

You just won America’s Got Talent. What’s your talent?

Not sure you can write on stage…hmmm, painting is probably out too. The talent I’d like to have would be singing really well.

Coffee or tea?

Coke Zero 😀 Sadly coffee makes me sick.

Best ice cream flavor ever?

Right now I’m on a mint ice cream kick

Your theme song/personal anthem?

Shake It Off by Taylor Swift 😀

Favorite quote?

“It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it’s called Life”

~Terry Pratchett

What is one piece of advice you would tell everyone?

Don’t worry so much.

Home--in the island village of Cloud Bay--is where the heart is. . .

Leah Santelli always knew that Zach Harper, son of a rock legend and her best friend's brother, was painfully out of reach. Then, on the night of her eighteenth birthday, Leah shocked herself by asking for--and receiving--the gift she wanted: one night of passion with Zach before he left town to pursue his rock star dreams. Now, years later, Zach is back in Cloud Bay to record his first solo album. His return could also be Leah's big chance to step up her own music career. But getting the producing credit she needs means spending long hours with Zach in the recording studio...and falling back into the habit of longing for him, for better or worse.

Zach used to believe that a man must put his past behind him. But coming back home for Cloud Bay's famed music festival has allowed him to finally make amends with his family and, much to his surprise, reunite with Leah. He might have left her once but now it seems he can't stay away. Trouble is, even though the heat between them burns hotter than ever, Leah has old wounds in need of healing before she can give Zach a real chance. Can he find a way to convince her that they can make more than just great music together--and that she's the one that he wants for all time?
