2018 Beat the Backlist Goals & TBR

POSTED ON December 1, 2017 BY Austine IN Reading Challenge

I can’t believe that 2017 is almost over! But a new year means a second chance at succeeding at the challenge I set myself last year: to read backlist books. And y’all were so into it that it became a challenge which I’m excited to bring back for 2018!

Last year I read over 50 backlist titles which was awesome! But I think I want to try for even more this year. I’m aiming for 100 books and hopefully can tackle some of the ones on the list below since many of them have been on my TBR for WAAAAYYYY too long.

I decided this year that I’d create a shorter TBR and see where the year takes me. I’m such a mood reader so I end up reading books I never planned to more often than not. But at the very least, I’d like to read these 25 books:

  1. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  2. Weather Witch by Shannon Delany
  3. The Diviners by Libba Bray
  4. Red Rising by Pierce Brown
  5. A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston
  6. Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes
  7. The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows
  8. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
  9. The Diabolical Miss Hyde by Viola Carr
  10. Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen
  11. The Magicians by Lev Grossman
  12. Dangerous Highlander by Donna Grant
  13. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
  14. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
  15. Thorn Jack by Katherine Harbour
  16. Breath of Life by Beth Cato
  17. The Summer Dragon by Todd Lockwood
  18. Flashfall by Jenny Moyer
  19. Freya by Matthew Laurence
  20. Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts
  21. Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody
  22. Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
  23. Even the Darkest Stars by Heather Fawcett
  24. Nyxia by Scott Reintgen
  25. Heroine Worship by Sarah Kuhn

I’m really excited to join the Novel Knights BTB team! If y’all missed it on the main challenge page, there will be 4 teams (randomly assigned) this year themed around the blog! Looking forward to competing with my fellow Novel Knights!

    • I know the feeling! I contemplated not even posting a TBR for this challenge since I didn’t stick to one last year XD but figured why not. It’ll probably change lol.

I really want to read Gentlemen’s Guide and The Song of Achilles too. I have read The Diviners though and I loved it! I need to read the third in the series. This is a fun challenge – I might just have to sign up since I really DO want to read more backlist books, especially ones I already own.

    • I’ve heard great things about The Diviners. Will have to get the 2nd and 3rd from the library so I can binge them all!

And yes, you should totally sign up (I’m not biased toward the challenge or anything haha). You don’t have to read a lot of books, you pick your own goal, your own TBR. It’s just about spreading backlist love so even one book read works!

  2. I’m also on Team Novel Knight! Woohoo!! Go Team!!! I hope you enjoy Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen. I really enjoy that series but still need to finish the last book. Best of luck with your tbr!! Thanks for setting it up ❤

  3. 100 – wow! I went for 35 last year & might up it to 50 this time. There’s some great books on your TBR already – The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue was one of my favourite reads of this year

    • I read a little over 60 backlist titles total this year of 250 books read overall so I THINK 100 is feasible. . . I think lol. Just need to cut back on the ARCs more. And I’ve heard amazing things about TGGTVAV so definitely can’t wait to dive into that one!

  4. About ten of these are on my radar to be read as well. Queen of Hearts though is on my project pile right now though. I started a page to read my own books and this challenge fit with my own goals. I decided I would read ten books at a time from my own books and “Queen of Hearts” was on that list. “A Discovery of Witches” will be one of my digital reads for my challenge here I am sure, since I own it and I have wanted to read it for so long! This challenge has seriously got me excited for January!
