On the corner of American Street and Joy Road, Fabiola Toussaint thought she would finally find une belle vie—a good life.
But after they leave Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Fabiola’s mother is detained by U.S. immigration, leaving Fabiola to navigate her loud American cousins, Chantal, Donna, and Princess; the grittiness of Detroit’s west side; a new school; and a surprising romance, all on her own.
Just as she finds her footing in this strange new world, a dangerous proposition presents itself, and Fabiola soon realizes that freedom comes at a cost. Trapped at the crossroads of an impossible choice, will she pay the price for the American dream?
I am really stoked that this comes out in a couple of weeks! I’ve heard such good things and even though I have the ARC of this, I’m still excited for the final copy because then everyone will be able to experience this book.
I seriously can’t wait to just LEARN. I want to learn how other people live, what their experiences are, what mud they have to be dragged through before they rise up. We all have our own road throughout life and to be able to have the chance to sort of walk in the shoes of someone else is one I will jump at. That’s why I love books. We get so many different perspectives on life.
