Hello everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. For me, it’s been a bit stressful with NaNoWriMo almost over and being super behind and I started thinking about all things I don’t know about being a writer in the publishing world, whether it’s the “traditional” route or self-published. Which means that I’m definitely not the only one thinking about that so after a lot of thought I narrowed down what would be the most useful thing to know in one question:
How did you become a published author?
There are SO MANY answers to this question and every author has taken a slightly different route or had different experiences. As writers, we’re told to kill our darlings which, to me, means that authors are villains of a sort and HAVE to have an origin story.
And those are the tales I think aspiring writers (and readers) want to hear.
But I can’t do this alone. I need you, authors who have made it out there, to tell us your stories. How did you get to where you are now?
If there’s enough interest, this will be a feature starting in 2017 on NovelKnight with a minimum of a monthly post (so at least 12 authors need to sign up!).
So… what will this feature look like?
TQTA will be a series of guest posts from authors of all varieties. These posts can be written in whatever way you (as the author) feels conveys your story best. Things you may consider including might be:
- introduce yourself and your book
- how you got into writing in the first place
- your path from unpublished to published
- advice to writers
These posts can be as long or short as needed to accommodate what you have to say. I’d also love to schedule them out close to any book releases you may have in the coming year as an added publicity boost for your novel.
The post will also include an author bio, photo, and links for following, as well as information on the book of your choosing with links for readers to find it.
This feature would go live on the last Friday of every month for 2017. If there is a lot of interest for it this may change to every other Friday but only time will tell for that. A tentative schedule for posts is below.
- January 27
- February 24
- March 31
- April 28
- May 26
- June 30
- July 28
- August 25
- September 29
- October 27
- November 24
- December 29
I couldn’t think of a super easy way to do this so if you’re interested, please fill out the Google form below (or click here if it doesn’t appear). Ideally I will be able to give the first person about a month to prep for this post and will go on a first-come-first-serve basis if there are no authors that sign up that also have a book releasing that month for ease of scheduling.
Please note: this feature is for those of you who have either already published a book (self or traditional) or have secured a deal for a release for an upcoming year (meaning all you ’18s, ’19s, etc. are encouraged to participate too!).
If you have ANY questions please don’t hesitate to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me via DM on Twitter @Novel_Knight (my DMs should be open).
