My Not-So-Serious Writing Checklist

For those following me on Twitter, my primary media cave, you may have seen that I’m working on a story for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this year and have been writing for a while. The dream? Become an established author (alongside being a high school science teacher so it’s an interesting combination).

But there are a few goals I’d like to accomplish as an author and wanted to share them with you.

Are you an aspiring author? How many of these are on your checklist?

nk1Write a book with a line so quotable that ALL the bookish swag is made for it

You know the lines I’m talking about, those ones that you always remember. That are just MADE for beautiful graphics on mugs, bags, you name it it’s on it.

nk2Write a book that readers make fan art for

I think fan art is some of the coolest ways that readers can show their appreciation for a book and if I was more artistic I totally would contribute to this. I think it’d be the coolest thing to see how others interpret my work.

nk3Create a world worthy of fanfiction

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? I’m not talking about posting this fanfiction everywhere but to create a world that inspires others to want to write fanfiction in the first place seems like a pretty awesome accomplishment.

nk4Have fans of the book earn a cool fandom name

Need I say more? I want book minions who willingly call themselves some made-up term because that’s fun and means a sense of community and just YES. NEED.

nk5Fill a shelf with books I’ve written

Whether it’s the same book and different editions or multiple titles, I want to someday have a shelf to stare at that shows that all these years working toward authordom haven’t been for nothing.
