#FF & My Favorite Character Archetypes

POSTED ON July 15, 2016 BY Austine IN Weekly/Monthly

Oh I’m excited for this week’s Feature/Follow! While originality is key in literature, there are just some character archetypes that always pop up. And no matter the story, I always pick out characters that fit one (or more) of my favorites (they usually end up being my favorite characters too so clearly I have a type).

Favorite Character Archetypes

The Vampire Diaries (Smith)
The Rakish Rogue

You never know if he’s a hero or villain but you can’t help but like him despite some of his more questionable choices.

Damon Salvatore, Vampire Diaries series by L.J. Smith

Fairest (Meyer)
The Evil Queen

Hailing back to my forever love of fairy tales, a story isn’t complete without an evil queen (or king) to act the supreme villain.

Queen Levana, The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

Halfway to the Grave (Frost)
The Kickass Heroine

Popular in the urban fantasy genre, these women are strong and independent, and can get themselves in (and out of) trouble.

Cat Crawfield, Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost

Throne of Glass (Maas)
The World’s Best Assassin

These characters can kill anything, are skilled in tracking and stealth, and who knows what side of the law they’re on?

Celaena Sardothien, Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Wrayth (Ballantine)
The Devoted Scholar

Oh for Pete’s sake, just let them learn instead of dragging them across the continent and back!

Merrick Chambers, Books of the Order series by Philippa Ballantine

What are some of your fave character archetypes?
